  • The German-Swedish painter Lotte Laserstein (1898-1993) is one of the most exciting rediscoveries of recent years. Her current publication as a great realist has assigned her an undisputed place in the 20th-century art history. Striking portraits, self-portraits and sensuous nudes demonstrate her synthesis of a traditional painting style and modern subject matter in the Berlin period, which ended abruptly when the Nazis seized power. Her five decades in Swedish exile are characterised by an extensive, thematically and stylistically diverse oeuvre. Works from all creative periods will shed new light on the artist.
